Privacy

Last updated: July 8, 2026

Short version: no accounts, no display ads, no tracking cookies. Your location is used on your device to show cold places near you and is never stored by us. Pins you add to the map are public. The "stay cool kit" panel contains clearly-marked affiliate links. That's basically it.

Your location

If you allow location access, your position is used in your browser to centre the map near you. It is not sent to or stored on our servers. Your approximate coordinates (rounded) are sent to Open-Meteo, a weather API, for one purpose: showing the current temperature in the header. Open-Meteo does not require an account and states it does not store personal data.

What we store

If you add a cold spot, confirm one, or flag one, that contribution (place name, category, coordinates, timestamp) is stored in our database (hosted on Supabase) and shown publicly on the map. Don't put personal information in a place name.

We also log anonymous usage events (things like "map opened", "spot confirmed", "share tapped", plus the interface language) to understand what's used. These events contain no name, email, account, or precise location of you as a person.

What third parties see

Like any website, the services that deliver this site receive your IP address as part of serving you: Netlify (hosting), CARTO and OpenStreetMap (map tiles), Google Fonts, unpkg/jsDelivr (code libraries), Supabase (database), and Open-Meteo (weather). Each processes requests under its own privacy policy. We don't send them anything about you beyond what a normal page load involves.

Cookies and local storage

We don't use cookies. We use your browser's local storage to remember pins and confirmations on your own device so the map still works offline-ish. It stays on your device and you can clear it in your browser settings.

Ads and affiliate links

The "stay cool kit" panel on the map contains affiliate links to Amazon. If you buy something after following one, brrrr may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, brrrr earns from qualifying purchases. These are plain outbound links: no Amazon script runs on this site and no tracking cookie is set by us. What Amazon does once you're on their site is covered by their own privacy policy.

There are currently no display ads. If ads are ever added, this policy will be updated first, and we still won't add tracking cookies without asking for consent.

Removing something

Want a pin or contribution removed, or have any privacy question? Email emaildevdixit@gmail.com and it'll get handled.

brrrr is a free heatwave utility made by one person. This policy is written in plain language on purpose; if any law requires a longer version, the practices described here are the complete, honest picture of what happens with your data.
